Welcome to Year 1. Miss Jefferies is our teacher. Mrs Barnes and Miss Tattersall help us with our learning.
In Geography we are learning about the United Kingdom. We have found out about features of the countries, seas and capital cities that make up the United Kingdom. We have enjoyed using atlases, maps and aerial photographs to investigate what the place we live in looks like.
For our Spring science unit we are learning about materials. So far we have enjoyed exploring the names and properties of different materials and also working out what things are made of. We had a great time investigating which material makes the best house for the three little pigs. Check out our great designs below!
We have PE on Thursday. Children should keep their PE bag and kit in school and it will be sent home at the end of every half term.
We listen to children read and change reading books throughout the week, so please bring your reading bags every day and put into your group box.
Please read with your child at home at least three times per week and write in their reading records so that we can praise their efforts.
Every child has their own red maths book containing individual targets. These targets should be worked towards throughout the week at home. Children will also have an opportunity to work on their target with an adult, in class, once per week. When a child is confident with their given skill, a new target will be set.
Every child that has opted in for homework has a `Learning Log` which they use to complete their homework.
A copy of this terms homework sheet can be found below. Please help your child to complete the activities by the set date.
Learning logs should be brought into school every Wednesday. They will be returned to children by Friday.
Spellings will be sent home on Mondays. These will link to the work we will be doing throughout the week. We test spellings the following Friday. Please try to help your child to learn to write the sounds they bring home. You could try to build them with magnetic letters, write them using a magic finger pencil or even use a stick in some mud!
We love to share with you the great work the children have been doing in class. We regularly hold Celebration Services where certificates are handed out to each class and we also allow children to share their special out of school achievements, such as swimming certificates. Parents and Carers are welcome to attend – check out the Newsletter or Twitter Feed for more information.
