Welcome to Year 2- Kestrels
Our class teacher is Miss Brown.
Mrs Hanley also helps us with our learning in a morning and afternoon.
We are expected to read at least three times a week and books can be changed at anytime when they have been read.
Homework is set weekly every Friday via Google Classroom and due in the following Wednesday.
Year 2 - 2023/24
In the morning:
Phonics, Maths, Guided Reading and Literacy.
In the afternoon:
Worship and Wider curriculum (Science, Art, DT, PE, History, Geography, PSHE and RE)
On Thursday afternoons we have Junior Jam to help us with our learning. In Junior Jam we do ICT, PE and Music.
Please ensure that FULL PE kits are in school on a Thursday.

Spring term
We have had a busy start to Spring term. We have started our Literacy topic all about amazing birds and are going to be producing some non-chronological reports all about birds of prey. We have also been creating structures in DT and looking at different joins and made houses for the three little pigs. In science we are investigating plants, watch this space for our investigations.
Autumn 2
We had a very busy half term. In our history topic we studied Remembrance and visited our local cenotaph to find out why it is important to remember. We also been looking at hot and cold countries and finding out all about the continents and oceans of the world. We also had lots of fun rehearsing and performing out nativity, a visit from Santa and also a delicious Christmas dinner and party.
As part of Community Week we worked together and planted bulbs. We wanted people in our local area to feel part of our community and we wrote them poems and delivered them our bulbs so they had something nice to see in the spring and remember us.
Autumn term 1
We have had a super start to year 2. We have learnt all about British Values and have done some fabulous pieces of artwork to celebrate individual liberty. We have also started our Literacy unit and have enjoyed reading and role play as the Jolly Postman. Within our maths work we have been looking at place value and are able to recognise tens and ones, we have used lots of practical equipment to help us. We have done lots of work on growth mindset and how we need to keep trying and not give up. We read the story "Giraffes can't Dance" and we made our own giraffes to show our goals for year two. We have a lovely reading area and reflection area in our classroom.
