Welcome to Early Years at Great Marsden St Johns!

We are delighted to welcome our new children and their families into our school family.

Starting school is an important milestone and we truly believe that teaching Reception has to be one of the best jobs in the world! It is wonderful to see our young children make so much progress as they develop during their time in our care and we aim to make their first learning experiences in school as enjoyable and as memorable as we can.

Children's learning is planned carefully using the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework, Development matters and children's own interests.

Our curriculum is split into 7 areas of learning and development:

There are 3 prime areas of learning:

Communication and Language

Physical Development

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

There are 4 specific areas of learning and development:

Literacy

Mathematics

Understanding of the World

Expressive arts and design

Children's learning is observed daily by all members of the Early Years team and recorded in the children individual Learning Journeys. These books show the amazing journey our Reception children go on through this exciting first year at school.
