“Music enhances the education of our children by helping them to make connections and broadening the depth with which they think and feel. If we are to hope for a society of culturally literate people, music must be a vital part of our children’s education.” – Yo-Yo Ma
At Great Marsden St John’s, children see Music as an inspiring, engaging and active subject. During music lessons, children will explore and create sounds in many different ways. They will learn to sing and use their voices in interesting ways. They will experience playing musical instruments, which are tuned and un-tuned and begin to read appropriate music notation. Children will develop clear subject knowledge about how music is created, produced and communicated through a range of elements including pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture and structure.
Our Music lessons are currently taught by Junior Jam. They provide teaching and resources for engaging Music lessons that all the children look forward to.
In the Autumn term, GMSJ will be learning how to play the African drums and music theory and keyboards.
In the Spring term, GMSJ will be learning how to sing and how to play the ukuleles.
In the Summer term, GMSJ will be learning song writing and how to play the glockenspiel.
Great Marsden St John’s also offers extra-curricular activities involving music such as a KS2 choir, guitar and violin lessons.
